Youth Conference

The SHYC held their first ever Youth Conference on Curriculum for Life this Tuesday. It was amazing to see students from across the borough in one location and being given the opputunity to explore their future pathways. I’m so grateful to all of the speakers from HireHigher, University of Surrey, Camberley and District Job Club, Royal Holloway and more who came and made it possible.

We put together the event in response to a consultation we ran, finding over 1/3 of Surrey Heath’s young people wanted this topic to be explored further and even more were worried about the rising cost of living. As a youth council, we decided this would be a brilliant way to give young people a first hand experience and opportunity to ask questions, while also giving us rescources to share with those who couldn’t attend.

Following the livestream we ran of the day, recordings of the inspirational speeches on topics from University to Job Interviews have been made available on the SHYC YouTube Channel.
